In 2006 the Royal Opera House commisioned Onoto to produce a range of pens to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the founding of The Royal Ballet, two different styles were available, Contemporary and Aspiration. Both models were made in a range of different colours and all were limited editions of only 75 pens.
The pens capture the spirit of ballet in light, delicate tones and were made from vitreous enamel applied over sterling silver.
This is the Contemporary Fountain Pen in Blue Enamel, it incorporates a ballerina icon engraved into the precious metal body of the pen. Translucent enamel is then applied over the engraving using exactly the same techniques as those perfected by Carl Fabergé more than 100 years ago, to create a stunning finish.
The pen is fitted with a hand finished, ultra smooth Onoto #7 Medium nib in 18ct gold. The pen uses standard international cartridges or the supplied converter.
The pens were produced in a limited edition of only 75 pens in each colour, this is number 20. It comes in a Royal Ballet presentation box and a signed Certificate of Authenticity, together with an Onoto History booklet.
This is a superb example of Onoto's modern craftsmanship. These are prestigious pens with a great deal of presence.
I have not done a write test on these pens to preserve their mint condition.
