This is one of the nicest examples of the Parker Vacumatic Maxima that I have had the pleasure to handle. Everything about it is perfect, the colour, the nib, the condition - all are near perfect and it is so hard to find pens like this any more.
This is a 2nd generation (1937-1941) Vacumatic Maxima finished in the most desirable colour, Azure Blue. It was made in Parkers factory in Janesville, USA in 1941 and I doubt that it has been used much in the intervening 78 years. The condition is stunning with clear and vibrant colours and a wonderful deep and clear imprint. The gold plating to the cap ring and tassies is superb and the clip has just a small amount of wear the end of the arrow. The Maxima was the biggest Vacumatic that Parker made at that time, it is longer and has a bigger girth than the standard Vacumatic range. It was an expensive pen in its time and is now very rare, especially in this colour and condition.
The first generation Vacumatics, branded as Oversize, (1932 - 1936) were fitted with the metal lockdown filler and had a short blind cap and a triple cap ring arrangement, the seond generation, branded as the Vacumatic Maxima, (1937 - 1941) were fitted with the speedline filler with the longer blind cap and a single cap band, the third generation (1942 - 1948) were fitted with the plastic filler, again with a longer blind cap and a single cap band. This is a 2nd Generation Maxima with the Speedline Filler and the single cap band.
The reticulated (semi transparent) barrel shows only very light ambering and the ink would be clearly visible should you choose to fill the pen.
This is the Blue Diamond model, a lifetime warranty designation given only to Parkers top of the range pens. The blue diamond on the clip is complete and the colour is still vibrant.
The diaphragm has been replaced and the pen is in full working order.
The original 14ct gold nib writes smoothly with an Extra Fine line.
This is a prestigious and rare pen in excellent condition. Probably more for the collector than the user but there is no reason why it cannot be used every day.
