Thomas De La Rue Ltd began manufacturing the Onoto range in 1905 and they quickly established themselves in an already densely populated marketplace. The pens were successful because of the excellent quality of the materials used and the superior design of the filling system. Onoto pens were as good, if not better, than all their contemporaries including Parker, Watermans and Conway Stewart.
This is a superb example of the Onoto's "The Pen" finished in Black Chased Hard Rubber, the pen is New Old Stock and has never seen any use. It dates from around 1930 and the plunger filling system, deliciously quirky but extremely efficient, has been fully serviced with a new washer and cork seals fitted.
The pen itself is in immaculate condition, as you would expect, with no wear to the chased pattern and no marks or scratches.
The 14ct gold nib is in excellent condition and writes beatifully with a Medium line.
Onoto pens are fabulous writing instruments and will give years of faithful service.
