This is a very nice example of the desirable Parker Vacumatic Major. It was made in Canada and is date coded "17" for the first quarter of 1937.
This is the 1st Generation Major model with the lockdown pump filler. The first generation Vacumatics (1932 - 1937) were fitted with the metal lockdown filler and had a short blind cap, the seond generation (1937 - 1941) were fitted with the speedline filler with the longer blind cap, the third generation (1942 - 1948) were fitted with the plastic filler, again with a longer blind cap. The later Oversize models with the single cap band were rebranded as the Vacumatic Maxima.
The pen is in good condition throughout with minor marks and scratches commensurate with use. The chrome plating is in good order with some wear at the extremities. The colours are clean and vibrant throughout. The clip screw has the correct silver pearl striped jewel as does the jewel on the blind cap. The imprint is clear and legible.
The diaphragm has been replaced and the pen is in full working order.
The original 14ct gold nib writes smoothly with a Medium Italic line.
We are very lucky here at Vintage Fountain Pens Ltd as we are able to continue to run the business from home. However we are taking every precaution to ensure that we all remain safe, all envelopes are new and come from sealed packaging, all pens and accessories are kept in sealed cupboards until required and all work areas are disinfected on a daily basis. We are still taking in repairs and, as long as the Post Office is open, we are able to turn them round very quickly. Let us hope that we get on top of this virus very quickly and we can all get back to normal. Thank you for your continued support.
