This is an excellent clean example of this rare pen, it also has a very interesting history. It has the inscription 'As a Momento from "Northern Star" No.3053 1923' After a little research I found that the Northern Star was a ship bought by the American Star Line in 1920 and used to transport passengers across the Atlantic. It may have been presented as a gift to First Class passengers but that is only my guess. The pen is dated 1923 but in that same year the ship was sold again to the American Sugar Transport Corporation before being acquired by the British Ministry of War in 1940. It was eventually sunk by a German U-Boat in 1941 off the coast of Greenland. So the ship had quite an eventful life!!
This was a top of the line model in 1925, solid gold pens would have been prohibitively expensive during the mid 1920's, a period of recession preceeding the great depression of the 1930's. It is now approaching its 100th birthday and it still looks fabulous with only very minor marks. There are no dings or dents and the wavy line pattern is still crisp and clear.
The No.2 Medium nib writes smoothly, the pen has been fully serviced and is ready to write.
This is a wonderful pen with a nice piece of history behind it.
