3950 Onoto Magna 1703 in Black Celluloid. Superb Medium FIVE STAR Nib.

Description;

Thomas De La Rue Ltd began manufacturing the Onoto range in 1905 and they quickly established themselves in an already densely populated marketplace. The pens were successful because of the excellent quality of the materials used and the superior design of the filling system. Onoto pens were as good, if not better, than all their contemporaries including Parker, Watermans and Conway Stewart.

The Onoto Magna was the flagship of the company for many years. Made from  tough Celluloid, they are a large pen and command a great deal of presence. They sold well at the top end of a densely populated marketplace because the pens were (and still are!) solid, robust and reliable.

The Magna is still a hugely desirable pen, this one is in very good condition with minor wear marks commensurate with use. The herringbone chased pattern to the cap and barrel is still crisp and the gold plating to the clip and triple cap rings is solid. The imprint on the barrel is clear and legible. It dates from the late 1930's.

This example is a lever filler although the same pen was made with Onoto's plunger filling system.

The 14ct gold No.7 nib is in excellent condition and writes beautifully with a Medium line. 

Onoto pens are fabulous writing instruments and will give years of faithful service.
