Description;

Thomas De La Rue Ltd began manufacturing the Onoto range in 1905 and they quickly established themselves in an already densely populated marketplace. The pens were successful because of the excellent quality of the materials used and the superior design of the filling system. Onoto pens were as good, if not better, than all their contemporaries including Parker, Watermans and Conway Stewart.

The Onoto Magna was the flagship of the company for many years. Made from  tough Celluloid, they are a large pen and command a great deal of presence. They sold well at the top end of a densely populated marketplace because the pens were (and still are!) solid, robust and reliable.

The Magna is still a hugely desirable pen, this one is in very good condition with minor wear marks commensurate with use. It is finished in the more desirable Balck and Brown Transparent Mesh which is in good condition with minor wear marks. The gold plating to the clip and cap ring is solid. The imprint on the barrel is clear and legible. It dates from the mid 1930's.

The Plunger filling system, deliciously quirky but very efficient, has been fully restored with new cork seals and piston washer fitted.

The 14ct gold No.7 nib is in excellent condition and writes beautifully with a Broad Italic line. 

Onoto pens are fabulous writing instruments and will give years of faithful service.
