Description.

This is a fabulous example of this rare Blackbird Topfiller finished in the hard to find Green, Gold and Black Swirl. This is the BT200/81 which was made in the UK and dates from around 1938.

The pen is made from celluloid and originally it was fitted with the Topfiller system, a variation on the Visofils fitted to the Swan range. Unfortunately the machinery used to make the topfiller was destroyed during the Blitz along with the entire stock of spare parts and tools. After the war Mabie Todd had no way of repairing or servicing the topfiller so many were converted to bulb fillers - like this one!

The bulb filling system is simple and efficient, the blind cap unscrews to reveal a rubber bulb which is squeezed to fill the barrel with ink. They have a large ink capacity and a visible ink window which is still clear as you can see from the photographs.

The pen is in excellent condition, the imprint on the barrel is deep and clear and the model is still clearly visible.

The Medium Italic nib is a pleasure to write with.

The pen has been fully serviced and is ready to write.
