Description.

Parker produced this pen set to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in June 1953. It was presented in a special box inscribed with the Royal Crown and the date. This was the very first 'Special Edition' pen ever produced and this becomes clear when you consider that the pens inside were not marked or inscribed with the occasion. They also were all produced in Grey with Lustraloy caps - a rather bizarre choice given the proliferation of top end Limited Edition pens that filled the market place from the 1980's onwards. However this was 1953, the Coronation was a huge event and the country needed a boost after years of war and rationing. Parker decided to produce a special box to mark the occasion but in this depressed era it made sense to fill it with a stock pen. I don't think that would work today! Anyway, enough of all that. The bottom line is that this is one of the rarest of the Parker 51 sets, it is totally original and in fabulous condition throughout. The box is on good condition and the crown and date are clear. Both Pen and Pencil are finished in Navy Grey with Lustraloy caps.

The pen is fitted with the reliable aerometric filling mechanism which has been fully serviced. It is fitted with a lovely smooth Medium nib.
