Description.

This is a really fabulous example of an early Swan Bayonet Chatelaine Eyedropper Fountain Pen, it was made in the UK and dates from around 1900 so is probably coming up for its 125th birthday!!

The Bayonet in the title refers to the unique 'push and twist' cap to keep the pen secure when it was hanging from the Chatelelaine chain. It was common in the late 19th and early 20th Century to wear your pen around the neck.

The pen is made from Black Hard Rubber with ornate gold filled decorations at the end of the barrel and cap. The cap finial is fitted with the chateleine chain. It is in excellent condition throughout.

The over/underfeed nib is a wonderful Fine with an incredible flex. The Fine line is 0.3mm but it flexes to 1.6mm - that is triple broad territory!!! They just don't make nibs like this anymore!

The nib has a hard rubber overfeed, again, typical of these very early models.

As I have mentioned many times before, as a left hander, I find it very difficult to write with a flex nib. This is because generally I am pushing the nib across the paper as opposed to a right hander who pulls it. The tines tend to dig in to the paper when pushed but open up delightfully when pulled, thus writing right-handed makes it a lot easier to use the flexible characteristics of the nib. However I have done my best to illustrate its flex with the write sample included in the images.

The pen has been fully serviced and is ready to write. An eyedropper will be supplied with which to fill the pen.
