Description.

The Parker VP was a very short lived model, introduced in 1962 it was withdrawn in 1964 in favour of the new Parker 75 although the 75 used many of the VPs design features!

The VP was developed by Don Doman with two broad aims, to provide a rotating nib to allow the user to choose the most comfortable writing angle, and to provide a mess-free filling system. The rotating nib unit was a success and a refined version was used on the 75. The Filling system was a modified aerometric unit (taken straight from the 51) but it's unique feature was that it was removable from the pen so it could be filled independantly. The actual filling system worked very well but it relied on a slender plastic tube that was pushed into the nib unit, this tube often broke and Parkers repair department was inundated with broken fillers. Parker learnt from this and the removable converter on the newly designed 75 used a different system altogether. The nib was an open 'beaked' design, a marked change from the 'en-vogue' hooded nibs of the 51 and 61, so yet again radical design nib paved the way for the nibs on both the 65 and 75.

So the VP was a source of many of the features on the most successful pen in Parkers history, the 75. Collectors love the VP because of its unique filler and the fact that you only needed 8 pens to complete the full set!

This particular pen is a VP with an intact filler unit and a Fine nib. It is in fabulous, almost unused condition. When inserted with care the filler unit works well and will last a lifetime however be aware that replacement filler units are no longer available. 

The Rolled Gold cap is in excellent condition with no dings or plating loss.

This is a rare pen in exceptional condition, although it was short-lived, its role in the development of future pens cannot be underestimated.
